When I saw this opportunity to be a part of Career Trek, I knew I couldn’t pass it up. I had spent the better part of the last 15 years working with Aboriginal urban community organizations dedicated to education, training and employment. As rewarding as this was, the opportunity to help children and youth discover career development through experiential learning really spoke to me.
As an Aboriginal woman, this vision has been especially near and dear to my heart.
This can be even more rewarding on many levels because the work that Career Trek does, is for everyone and more importantly, it begins with children. In a world where we are fortunate enough to live in diverse communities with different cultures, interests, and people – it’s truly a meaningful career to simply be part of this blended society and help others.
For the last 16 years, this organization has helped thousands of youth find their passion, and in turn inspired them to pursue post-secondary education that meant something more than just a future job, it has helped guide them to pursue a career they can love.
We know that to make change meaningful, we have to be different. Career Trek is that.
We also know that to reach youth, we have to start young. Career Trek does that too.
I’m sincerely humbled by this opportunity, and I’m excited to play a small role in influencing positive change for a better tomorrow.
